Printmaking Solar Plate Workshop
Paper and plate not included in price.

Bring black and white artwork or photograph printed on transparency film for transfer onto plate.
A one day workshop on Solar plate printmaking. Solar plates are thin metal plates with a UV sensitive coating and are a safer, convenient alternative to traditional etching techniques. Etched using either UV lights or sunlight, the images produced with solar plates are developed with tap water and can either be printed as intaglio or relief prints.

With solar plate technique, you create artwork directly on the plate, clear mylar, glass, or use a digital image printed from your computer. Creating the image on acetate, glass or transparent film gives you freedom and flexibility to experiment. The process is inexpensive and faster compared to traditional zinc or copper plate etching. Solar plates can be combined with other forms of printmaking, mix media work, and painting or drawing on paper. It is a versatile process, and simple to learn. Once the artwork is created, the plate can be developed and printed within an hour.

In the morning, you will learn how to develop a plate using images created on acetate, glass, or with digital images pre-printed onto transparency film from your own computers. In the afternoon you will be able to make your own plates and print the results.
